Book and Journal-making

I've done so many different types of crafting, and I have been having so much fun journaling...junk, writing and art. There are so many different ways to create in a journal so I decided why not MAKE my own!! From taking an old, Goodwill find, dissecting it and making it into something new and wonderful to taking watercolor paper, tissue, scrapbook and other types of paper and putting them into a delicious book all of my own...I've taken journaling to a new level! Visit my Handmade Treasures by Jan page on Facebook to learn more about a class that will be upcoming. You'll learn all about how to fold, stitch and make your own beautiful journal all of your own. Here are a couple examples:
Can't wait to see you online again next time! Cheers! Jan xx

Junk Journal-Mania

If you've known me for a while, you know my love and adoration for Heather Stillufsen runs LONG and strong!! I recently purchased another journal from Heather's Etsy shop, and wasn't sure that I would use it...as I tend to savor, hang onto, and hoard the beautiful journals much more than I probably should.
When they're so dang pretty...how can a person "muck" it up with a pen and ink?? Well...I decided this one would be different, and I decided that my love of Heather and my love of Junk Journaling would be combined! I decided that this Stillufsen journal would be my new Junk Journal, and I can't tell you how happy I am that it is!! The first two pages make me so happy...words hardly describe my joy. Here they are:
What I have decided to do is leave the backside of each page blank so that I can add my thoughts, gratitude and prayers for the day on that page so as not to soil the actual journal page itself. If you would like to journal along with me...comment below, and I will create a Junk Journal event on a day that works best for all on the Handmade Treasures by Jan FaceBook page. That would be so much fun!! Cheers and Journal Joy, my friends! Jan

Growing in Unity Blog Hop

Come and join the fun of a Growing in Unity Blog Hop! After being a Growing in Unity artist of the week, I am lucky enough to "hop" along with some amazing artists. Here I have used Donna Downey's amazing "You Are Important" stamp kit to make a couple beautiful. I had such a hard time deciding which I would choose, so I didn't! I love the Mixed Media feel of the first image, and with the use of washi tape, acrylic paint accents and watercolor paints. I didn't add a sentiment to this one because I think the beautiful design speaks for itself. In the second card, Distressed Oxides to blend a pretty-in-pink background, and stamped the giant floral image over the blend. I again used some black acrylic to add some dotted accents and on this one I used a sentiment from the kit in coordinating color. I can't tell you how I love the wonderful red rubber of Unity stamps, and if you haven't tried them...WHAT are you waiting for? You will absolutely love these stamps, embellishments, and everything that Unity has to offer! Thanks for "hopping" over - don't forget to leave a comment for your chance to win! See below for the next "hop" spot!!

My Final Day of Growing In Unity's Artist of the Week

On my final day of Growing In Unity, I wanted to share how I use this delicious red rubber in my art journal. Here is one example: I pulled out Lux Girl and set her in a wilderness of Your Season and Layers of Life musical trees ~ the Layers of Life “magic” sentiment, along with a PERFECT Life is a Dream sentiment, which I was lucky enough to acquire from a grab bag, rounded out this move into the new year!! Using rub-ons, stencils, Washi, sprays and pen-made scratch marks, my page was completed!! Thanks so much for your wonderfully encouraging comments all week ~ you’ve all been so very kind! Be sure to like and follow my page ~ Handmade Treasures by Jan ~ to get all the latest crafty updates, and to watch & play along as I craft live on Tuesday nights at 6:30pm CST (closed for vacation the week of 01/02/2022 ~ returning on 01/11šŸ¤©) Don’t forgot to keep commenting for your chance to win something wonderful from Unity Stamp Company! Growing In Unity - Day Four

Day Four of my Growing In Unity journey takes me down a completely different and amazingly fun path!! I pulled some of my favorite Angie Girls and Guys and put them on a 16”x6” craft board, that I mounted onto a canvas that I painted and decorated. Sawyer, Best Girls, Dallas, Forrest, Kara & Melissa are showcased on this piece with the floral from the Simplicity set in the background. With some fun stenciling and spraying, the piece was finished!! I hope you’re enjoying my GIU trip as much as I am!! Gosh, I love Unity so much!! Be sure to comment below for the chance to win a prize at the end of my week!

Growing In Unity - Day 3

My Growing In Unity Day 3 is all about mixing components from various kits. The beautiful girl from Moving Forward was popped over the Love Story background ~ the background was very lightly blended so as not to distract from just how pretty this Angie Girl really is!! Next, I chose to emboss a sentiment from Smile You Are Loved, which just seemed to make this into a “picture”, so I finished up by popping the frame from Possible, Not Easy to frame-up the girls. Picture Perfect!! Thanks again for following along on my week of fun!! Don’t forget to comment below for the chance to win something wonderful from Unity Stamp Company!!

Day Two - Growing In Unity

Day Two of my Growing In Unity week took me to the boring cover of one of my lettering journals ~ it needed a little sprucing up AND some sparkle in order for me to find it the least bit inspiring. Soooo…off to my Unity stash I went!! ❤️ I used the Layers of Life kit for the sentiment and Sunflower wishes for this gorgeous flower!! Using Kuretake glittery watercolors I painted the sunflower petals and then used a few acrylic colors in the center to add texture and just some fun details. Popping the INSPIRE sentiment over a “booboo” was a perfectly happy accident which turned out to work in my favor. (Now go back and see the smudge šŸ˜‰) Now my journal is happy enough to pick up AND even carry along with me to use more regularly!! Thanks for following along ~ remember to comment below for the chance to win something wonderful from Unity Stamp Company!
